| To Mike Andrews and
the entire Jimmy Fund Team, Lisa Sherber and the incredible people at the
Jimmy Fund Clinic, the entire staffs of WEEI and NESN, the Boston Red Sox
Organization, and to all of you who contributed to the 7th Annual WEEI-NESN
Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon:
I cannot put it properly into words how I feel after having been a part of the most spectacular event I've ever seen. The passion and energy that you have all put into helping raise a record $4,839,016 over the last two days is incredibly overwhelming. Seven years ago when this event began, I don't think any of us had any specific expectations of what it would become, but as it has grown, one thing is clear. The Jimmy Fund's story needs to continue to be told. The support of the listening and viewing public has become something much more than just donating money for a cause. It's become personal. We are all affected in some way, by those who are suffering or have suffered from some form of cancer. We are moved beyond words by the courage of the patients that we hear from each year, and that gives us the motivation to continue to grow this event to heights we never dreamed we could reach. But we have. I love that we can put our normal business on hold for two days and use our collective strength to bring the community together in a way that is indescribable. Without you, this would not be possible. We reached the goal we set for ourselves last night, and that was to raise $4,000,000, however we have not reached our ultimate goal, and that is a world without cancer. But through your unwavering dedication and sprit, we're getting closer and closer. Nearly $17,000,000 dollars have been raised in the seven years of the radio-telethon and because of that, and of you, many lives have been saved. I will remember these last two days forever. From the bottom of my heart, Thank you. Most Sincerely, Jason Wolfe |
| I have a really interesting
job. Some would say enviable. I manage a big, bad sports radio station that
can boast that it’s the biggest in America. We are in Title Town.
WEEI is spreading across New England because the demand for our brand is
everywhere. And I also have a really challenging job. I work with larger-than-life radio talent that are unbelievably opinionated, unfaltering in their views, fawned over, and perfectionists. Everything has to be “just so” for them to perform at the highest levels of radio entertainment. Think it’s easy to talk and entertain for 4 hours? Try it! These guys are damn good. They’re the best. I really do love what I do but, as you know, not every work day is a great. However, on two very special days a year I can’t imagine having a more rewarding job. On those days I’m privileged to witness all these smart, tough, opinionated, and gifted guys become the greatest and most heartfelt pitchmen for one of the best possible causes – supporting the Jimmy Fund as it supports the doctors and researchers of Dana Farber in their goal of eradicating cancer in our lifetimes and bringing comfort to those afflicted until that goal can be reached. Over the past couple of days, we have all heard many moving, touching and amazing stories of heroism, heartbreak, hope and triumph. The worthiness of this great cause is beyond question. And what was accomplished during the WEEI/ NESN radio-telethon was beyond belief. Of course none of this could not have happened without the Red Sox organization, the folks at NESN, the great staff at the Jimmy Fund, the sponsors, the celebrities, and the many other groups and organizations who donated their time and resources. The scope of the teamwork was extraordinary; we are humbled to have been part of this incredible collaboration. But I would be negligent if I did not single out the amazing effort put in by the full WEEI roster. From the WEEI teams in Providence, Springfield and Worcester to the weei.com team; truly EVERYONE in the entire WEEI organization played a role. And finally, THANK
YOU to all of you who gave $1, $10, $1,000, or $50,000; you were generous
beyond our wildest imagination. |
